Burnout syndrome is a phrase used in human resources to indicate exhaustion, sadness, and a lack of vitality after working for an extended period of time. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), burnout is caused by long-term work stress and cannot be alleviated. Burnout symptoms include a lack of interest in work, decreased productivity, job dissatisfaction, and feelings of mental and physical tiredness.

Example

Burnout in HR can occur when an employee is overburdened with work for an extended period of time, feels pushed and psychologically strained, has little time to rest, and does not have full support from management. This can lead to burnout, as individuals become disinterested in their work, lower productivity, and even have problems with coworkers or management. To combat burnout, managers must ensure that their staff are completely supported, have a pleasant work environment, and maintain a work-life balance.
